SAA Voyager offers five tiers - Blue, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Lifetime Platinum - each tier provides members with exclusive benefits. As a valued SAA Voyager member, you are able to improve your Tier status, based on your support and enjoy more benefits. Your SAA Voyager elite status means access to additional benefits and privileges based on your Tier status. Tier miles are earned per calendar year on SAA and Star Alliance.
Types of Awards Exclusive to SAA
Upgrades
Low-mileage upgrade awards are available on SAA operating flights. The upgradable seats will be released 48 hours prior to departure, and the qualifying classes members can upgrade from are Y, B M and K class fares. The relevant levies/taxes and surcharges will be for your account, payable in cash or card payment.
Note: Upgrade Awards have to be issued on a one-way basis and per sector. For example if you travel from Cape Town to Johannesburg (sector), Johannesburg to Accra (sector), Accra to Johannesburg (sector) and Johannesburg to Cape Town (sector). Four (4) Awards will need to be issued, if you want to upgrade on the entire route.
How to earn redeemable Miles
On SAA operating flights, you earn 1 Mile for every R1.60 spent on the base fare and carrier imposed fees. Miles based on distance flown and booking class are earned on SAA marketing flights with other airlines.
Referred to as our Dynamic Awards, you will be able to spend your Miles on any available seat of an SAA operated flight for the base fare and carrier imposed fees.
South African Airways only has 1 transfer partner . You’ll be able to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to South African Airways at a 3:1 ratio with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transferred. This means that if you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, you’ll get a total of 25,000 South African Airways Voyager miles.
